SHAPES
Objective:
To learn about what shape is, different kinds of shapes,
and how they can be created using line, color, texture,
or even a series of smaller shapes. Briefly touch on 3-d
shapes.
Types
of shapes: Two-dimensional, three-dimensional, familiar
standard shapes (square, etc), irregular shapes.
Book
read: Tar Beach, by Faith Ringgold. (very good
examples of shapes on nearly every page)
Art
Project: Use shapes to create a city skyline
at night with construction paper and paint.

LINES
Objective:
To learn about what a line is, different kinds of lines, and
how they can be used to show direction, movement, and communicate
moods and feelings.
Types
of lines: Vertical, horizontal, diagonal, contour, implied,
and character
Book
read: The Girl Who Loved Wild Horses, by Paul Goble.
(The lightning, clouds, mountains, tipis, and blankets are
a few good examples of the use of lines.)
Art
project: Create blankets (similar to the ones in the book)
using contruction paper and different kinds of lines drawn
by the student.
